The room started swaying in front of him and he began to wish he’d had just one less bourbon in the backroom.
Back on stage and singing the opening night blues once again.

I closed my eyes and told myself again that you were gone and the tears came.
I kept on walking alone.

Reluctantly, his diaphragm gives way, drawing stale air into his chest.

As quickly as possible, it snaps back.
– and out –
He is unaware of the woman holding his hand. He cannot see her tears.
He is tired of pain, of darkness, of missing all he has lost. And so, he sleeps.
