The Last Breath

– In and out –

Reluctantly, his diaphragm gives way, drawing stale air into his chest.

– In –

As quickly as possible, it snaps back.

– and out –

He is unaware of the woman holding his hand. He cannot see her tears.

He is tired of pain, of darkness, of missing all he has lost. And so, he sleeps.
