Lauren and Teddy Visit the Doctor

“Lauren,” the nurse calls. She drags her ragged teddy and climbs onto the crinkly white paper. Tears flow as a doctor enters with a fluid-filled syringe.
“Momma, no!” She screams and writhes while Mom holds her down. Antiseptic smell permeates the room. Teddy falls. The deed is done.
She accepts the lollipop, smiling widely.
