Every message is the same. Two minutes of miscellaneous forwarding comments and then the funniest fifteen seconds he’s ever heard.
Wiping away the tears Doug continues the chain.

The day had come. The one I’d been waiting for the last 20 years. I’d done it! I’d broken into the ranks of paid writers. The check had come in the mail. Slowly I sliced open the envelope and pulled out the check. One cent! I laughed. I start small.

Brian stared as the second hand turned round and round. He could even see the minute hand slowly make its course across the clock face.
Would the postman never come?
At last! From the front of the house came footsteps, a squeaky hinge, and the gentle clang of a mailbox lid.

Bill went quietly into his daughter’s room, making sure she was asleep like the rest of the family. He tiptoed out just as quickly, his prize tucked under his tattooed arm.
“What if they find out?” he wondered, frozen momentarily by the thought.
He stopped worrying as he lost himself in the Nancy Drew mystery.
