This story comes from Mary Jo. Thanks!

Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) is only two days away, and the vibe at stores in nearly palpable. I want so much to be a part of it, yet know that I don’t need that anxiety and stress […]

Madison trudged home. Instead of taking the bus, she walked alone. At the party she stood under the mistletoe for hours. Ethan passed several times. Always a smile; never more.
Turning onto Oak, Madison decided to give up.
She started up the stoop. And there sat Ethan, thermos in one hand, mistletoe in the other.

This was clearly Buddy’s favorite time of year. There weren’t as many smells outside, but the house was an explosion of scents. Other humans came frequently, and Mrs. was always cooking something for them. Buddy was a master at “sad eyes,” so he always got extra nibbles.
The doorbell rang, and Buddy began to drool.

The bear pounced on my back, seemingly from out of nowhere. Its arms wrapped around my body. I thought there was no escape. Somehow I wrestled it to the ground and forced it into submission. I cheered until the stockboy told me that since I ripped its sides, I had to buy the stuffed bear.

She’s seen thousands of plus signs.
It was introduced to her during her first grade in school.

Wait… Bingo!

Deep breaths… Calm down… Get a hold of yourself…
I could hear the sobs coming from upstairs, and I remembered the frightened eyes as I roared in anger.
I’m horrible.
Slipping upstairs I walked into his room and knelt in front of him.
“I’m sorry.”
He gave me a big hug, and broke my heart.

Darth Vader looked harmless. Even with his light saber, he didn’t look threatening.
Superman looked lost. Not exactly sure what to do.
Mermaid looked uncomfortable. Her fins were bothering her.
Bumblebee was bigger than the average bee. Looked cute nonetheless.
Superman was back. He looked different. With glasses this time.
Halloween was fun for everyone!!

Explosions echoed off nearby buildings. The Humvee roared down the street slowing for nothing. Rounding a corner Sgt. Markos saw an obstacle. The road was blocked by the burnt-out shell of a minibus. Standing in front four small children held weapons.
Pressing down on the accelerator, Markos left the threat and his soul behind.
