Luminary Amnesia

Luminary Amnesia

Thanks Kerri for another wonderful Christmas story!
Excitedly, she lugged the crate of decorations up from the basement and set it on the coffetable. In her mind, she could see the brilliance of last year’s tree—the ornaments, the ribbon, the presents underneath. As she unveiled the adornments for this year, she groaned. She’d forgotten about stringing the stinking lights.

Black Friday Shopping

Black Friday Shopping

This story comes from Mary Jo. Thanks!
The busy holiday shopping season is nearly upon us.
Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) is only two days away, and the vibe at stores in nearly palpable. I want so much to be a part of it, yet know that I don’t need that anxiety and stress in my life.
What should I do?

Christmas Surprise

Christmas Surprise

Brenda barely breathed while Santa rustled about the living room. That sounded like Santa eating Brenda’s special cookies with the special ingredient. That sounded like the remote control car.
That sounded like a panicked dash to the bathroom.
That sounded like a father who would regret telling little Johnny the truth about Santa before bed.

Underneath the Mistletoe

Underneath the Mistletoe

Madison trudged home. Instead of taking the bus, she walked alone. At the party she stood under the mistletoe for hours. Ethan passed several times. Always a smile; never more.
Turning onto Oak, Madison decided to give up.
She started up the stoop. And there sat Ethan, thermos in one hand, mistletoe in the other.

Crumbs Under the Table

Crumbs Under the Table

This was clearly Buddy’s favorite time of year. There weren’t as many smells outside, but the house was an explosion of scents. Other humans came frequently, and Mrs. was always cooking something for them. Buddy was a master at “sad eyes,” so he always got extra nibbles.
The doorbell rang, and Buddy began to drool.

The Attack

The Attack

The bear pounced on my back, seemingly from out of nowhere. Its arms wrapped around my body. I thought there was no escape. Somehow I wrestled it to the ground and forced it into submission. I cheered until the stockboy told me that since I ripped its sides, I had to buy the stuffed bear.

Plus Sign

Plus Sign

She’s seen thousands of plus signs.
It was introduced to her during her first grade in school.
A plus sign is used when adding two numbers.
One plus one equals two.
But today, a plus sign means a wonderful blessing.
In nine months, she’ll be a mother.

The Smoking Gun

The Smoking Gun

Through bleary eyes, Arch poured over the subpoenaed documents. He knew everything about the Christmas party, Gwen Dreeser’s cancer and Marcus Proost’s baby. There were tired email jokes, virus warnings and bogus consumer product recalls, but there was nothing about –
Wait… Bingo!

An Apology

An Apology

Deep breaths… Calm down… Get a hold of yourself…
I could hear the sobs coming from upstairs, and I remembered the frightened eyes as I roared in anger.
I’m horrible.
Slipping upstairs I walked into his room and knelt in front of him.
“I’m sorry.”
He gave me a big hug, and broke my heart.

Visitors

Visitors

Darth Vader looked harmless. Even with his light saber, he didn’t look threatening.
Superman looked lost. Not exactly sure what to do.
Mermaid looked uncomfortable. Her fins were bothering her.
Bumblebee was bigger than the average bee. Looked cute nonetheless.
Superman was back. He looked different. With glasses this time.
Halloween was fun for everyone!!
