The spacecraft drew closer to the sun as Brazzk toggled the controls. The ship’s panels extended, waiting.
A solar flare erupted from the surface, reaching around and beyond the spaceship. Brazzk screamed from the heat.
The flames withdrew as quickly as they came. Relieved, Brazzk piloted the recharged ship out into the cold dark void.

He paused behind an old circus booth, listening for the sound of running feet. He debated whether to wait for back-up and risk the fugitive’s escape, or pursue the wanted man.
He drew his gun and saw a shadowy figure do the same. He fired in self-preservation.
The trick mirror shattered into a million pieces.

He closed his eyes briefly and the soothing peacefulness of the train’s rhythmic motion relaxed him for the first time in days.
A sudden stop jolted him forward and as he awoke in a momentary daze, he looked out of the window and realised that this wasn’t his stop. It wasn’t even his train.
